Emails, text and a phone call with message requesting we pay a collection agency. Accusing us of an unpaid bill, harassing us to pay. There was a spelling error in the initial note which made my wife and I suspicious. Although we tried to verify this complaint by contacting Telus and the Collection Agency "ACRM" both contact numbers directed us to automated systems that could not answer our questions. This may be why these scammers are using these companies. The BBB post is the only verification that we could find to support our theory. A person with a very sharp accent named Elly called to say that I needed to cancel a membership to a keto supplement company and that they were sending me to the collection agency if I didn’t cancel my account. I have never opened an account for Keto Gummies and they couldn’t send me email proof and they couldn’t tell me what the last 4 digits of the credit card they were trying to charge. I told them they were a scam and hung up. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: Max Gain-Pro] [Location: AB, CAN- T4V 4N8]
Dumb question, huge mistake, but at I walking into a scam with this collections agent? Dumb question, huge mistake. So I was a dummy when we didn’t re-sign our lease on our house we were renting and I decided to do a payment plan on the balance owed to NV Energy here in Vegas. I did one payment and forgot about it. It goes to collections, the account was in my gf’s name and now she’s getting a collections ding on her credit score. I called to pay off the balance but they say even if the balance is paid that collections mark can stay on your report for years unless you dispute it. But I really have nothing to dispute. I just fucked up and forgot about the payment plan and never got any emails or calls reminding me. Is there any course of action to correct this? The collection agent only said I could dispute it to get it immediately pulled off her score. Are there any options I have to get it expunged? I’m willing to literally pay the balance today. UPDATE: I call NV Energy and ask them the name of the collection agency: they give me a number that does not work. I google the agency. I click the link to call the number off the first site that pops up for them from google. [This site.](https://collection.creditproud.com/lj-ross-associates?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD8RKWSWrEx6T3AbQTleLQP6ZsYep&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_436zbrpigMV5SlECB3kCiyZEAAYASAAEgKHK_D_BwE) The number I click is completely different from the one the link automatically dials. I talk to the agent a little bit and he sounds legit. He sounds professional and like he’s in this country. But I tell him I have to discuss with my GF. As I go to call the number back a different number calls me and it’s the previous guy’s partner from the same agency. I asked why I got a different number and a different guy and they said it was their shift change but he’d be handling my case. (I did call at about 4:30pm) When going through the case he sounded professional but he told me my options were basically to dispute the
Incorrect address popped up on credit application... Applying for a Sam's Club card (Synchrony Bank) online, the address information displayed an incorrect address. The address was \*not\* my Sam's Club address, and it is not on any of my credit reports. However, a person I know just moved to that address recently. The address was not editable, and it appeared in the process after I entered my SSN, so Synchrony must've gotten it from somewhere related to my credit??? I canceled that process and applied via a physical Sam's store, which ensured my correct address was used. Then, I contacted Synchrony's customer service to find out where the online form's address came from: they said they have no idea. **Some history**: the person I know is a friend of our family. They have bad credit and so I co-signed a lease with them and paid their rent for one year. I canceled off the lease after the first year, whereupon they consistently paid their rent for another two years. However, aparently they left the apartment damaged, as I was contacted by a collection agency to pay an amount they owe since leaving the apartment a couple of months ago. I worked with the apartment complex and the collection agency to get my name removed from the debt, since I had proof that I canceled my name off the lease after that first year. It took a few conversations with the debt collector (with the apartment complex vouching), but my name was finally removed from the renter's debt. I've checked, and the lease never showed my SSN, so this person shouldn't have had access to that. **I've read** that most identity theft occurs around things like utility requests; items that aren't reported to a credit bureau unless the person defaults on a number of payments. I'm concerned that if this person found out my SSN, they may have used it to get utilities turned on at their new address. **I'm also aware** that there are some "hidden" credit bureaus that get their information from multiple sources, a
Fraudulent account went to collections I need some advice. My identity was stolen and someone in another state got cable/internet with my info. I didn’t know about this until a collection popped up on my credit report a couple months ago for $634. I disputed the item on all three bureaus- equifax and transunion took it off, but experien is still “investigating”. I got a letter yesterday from the collection agency (they have my last name totally wrong - I was able to dispute and get that name removed from all 3 bureaus) but according to it, the amount is now $1028. My problem is that even if all the bureaus take it off, won’t I still have a collection out there with my info on it? I was advised years ago to not contact a collection agency because it legitimatizes the charge, but I feel I need to contact them and set things straight. I just don’t want to misstep and make things worse. Not sure what to do…
Need advice. Towing company wants me to pay for storage on a car that was stolen from me. Help me remove it off my credit report! My car was stolen from me off my school campus in the middle of February. After a couple days later they were able to find my car up in the Los Angeles area. I went to check it out and was told if I wanted it back I would have to pay to take it and if I didn't want it to just give them the pink slip and pay a fee. I told him I didn't have it with me and I drove 2 and half hours to get here so he told me don't worry about it then because after 30 days they'll just take it and make money at the auction anyhow. So I said my goodbye to my car and went home. Fast forward to now, I finally have enough money to go buy a new car and as I was about to finalize the deal they run my credit report and my score was 702. I needed 730 to be approve for the 0% interest for 36 months and the only blemish was that a certain towing company is charging me $1,042 on my credit report. I called the towing company asking them why am I being charged for storage when the car was stolen and no one told me I had to pay for the $1042 and they said it was policy to tell everyone that gets their car towed to the impound to pay for storage and that the issue is not up to them anymore since it's been 9 months, they said it's now up to the collection agency and I have to take it up with them. What recourse do I have? Can I sue for compensatory and punitive damages under the Fair Credit Reporting Act? Would it help me remove it completely off my credit report?
Dentist put us in collections for an unpaid bill My husband went to a dentist 3-4 years ago. We were really broke at the time and he had very limited dental insurance. He told the dentist that he only wanted to get work done that would be covered under his insurance - so he couldn't go over $700. Dentist said okay. He goes for a couple procedures, and at the end, we're handed a $750 bill. We argued with them about it, and they said there's no possible way for them to tell how much a procedure will cost until it's done and they run it through insurance. My mother is a doctor and works with these situations all the time and tells me this isn't true. Plus, it was at least 3 different appointments, not a whole bunch of procedures done all at once. They didn't need to even find out how much he had left from his insurance company because we told them specifically - insurance only covers up to $700, that's all we can do. We gave up fighting with the dentist and agreed to pay them $50 a month. At the time we couldn't afford it, but we tried. It ended up being more like $50 every 2-3 months, sometimes longer. We payed off all but $150. Then we moved out of the state. To clarify, this took place in California where we had only lived for a couple years - moved there on a silly whim. We both got layed off and were about to lose our apartment, so my parents payed to move us back home to New York. When we moved back we were without money for quite awhile, so we never payed off that $150. A couple years later my husband starts getting collection calls. The dentist put him in collections. The collection agency wants over $200 because of "fees". I asked to receive a statement or some sort of notification/paperwork, but they refused. They said I needed to make a payment right at that moment, that it can only be made over the phone, and that there's "no reason I need to see paperwork". Around the same time, my husband got dental insurance again and went to a local dentist becaus
