Landlord Refuses To Return Deposit and is breaking the law but claims he isn't. (US - TX) I'm in a peculiar situation with a past landlord. I moved out on August 31st and "surrendered" the property as per instructions on the lease (ie. gave keys back, gave him a 2 month notice, vacated the property). I'm in texas and the property code that states that: * the landlord has to return the deposit or an itemized list of deductions. * the landlord has 30 days to do this * after the 30 days, the landlord is considered to be acting in "bad faith" and is liable for 3 times the amount of the deposit + $100 fee + any attorney fees should this go to court The landlord has been trying to charge me for things that fell under legal wear 'n tear (stuff I'm not responsible for paying), damages that were present at the property before move in (as noted on an inventory sheet) and so on. Well, he failed to send me my deposit or deductions within the 30 days yet he claims that the 30 days begin when I give him my forwarding address (which was given on September 7th). The property code states that: * if the tenant does not provide a forwarding address, the landlord does not have to provide an itemized list or a deposit. Yet, the address was provided within those 30 days. I even emailed him during those 30 days to make sure everything was going fine and was assured that he was just getting things together to send it. Now however, I am demanding a full refund since the list nor the deposit was delivered within 30 days (though i should receive it tomorrow). He however claims the 30 days commencement is when I provided the address, even after I quoted the property code to him. His lawyer (of course) is on his side and told me to get an attorney before I start spouting off stuff. Right now, I'm at a cross-roads. * on one hand, I still need to dispute 90% of the charges (which cost me more than 70% of the deposit) which were false * on the other hand, the landlord was late and while

Texas CHL question relating to 30.06 According to section 30.06 of the Texas penal code, a place of business can disallow the licensed carrying of a concealed handgun by placing signs at the entrance that have to follow very specific rules: http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.30.htm It specifies that the sign must be in a conspicuous location, using contrasting colors with letters of at least an inch. In addition, it requires that the wording be repeated in both English and Spanish. If a place were to have the sign following all the requirements but _only_ have the English version posted, would I be allowed to carry there legally? Even if I were not a Spanish speaker? It seems by the letter of the law, the answer is yes, but I thought I'd ask the lawyers of reddit for their opinion.
