How to engineer a situation with a person who is a "fantasist" (possibly pseudologia fantastica) I am a consultant and I work with another consultant (Mr X) for a common client (Mr Y) I noticed recently that Mr X lies all the time. You can often find something in every email or conversation with this person that is a lie, a misrepresentation or a exaggeration. In IT consulting, to a degree this is expected. Consultants have to sell themselves, compete with other consultants for the same work, and highlight their previous successes, to be hired. And sometimes I see some claims that are fairly far fetched. (obvious lies) (It's worth mentioning that Mr X is a highly intelligent, and quite successful in his field, and highly regarded by his colleagues. Other than this email about me, I quite like the guy as well) A situation occurred recently where Mr X decided to write an email to my boss which contained some disparaging suggestions about me. When I looked into the suggestions about me, it was pretty clear they were totally made up, and hocked together insinuations, really just to create some FUD. it was quite cleverly done, but superficial. I wrote an angry reply, refuting the allegations with a detailed response. I also made it clear that I believe Mr X displays a pattern of dishonest behaviour to Mr Y. In his email sig he is listed as "company director", and proudly displays a "runner up in competition Y", and on his bio he lists numerous publications. I can find little evidence to corroborate some of Mr X's previous achievements. The company he is director of does not appear to exist at companieshouse.gov.uk. The competition he claims he was in, has a list of the runners up and winners. And he, or his company are not in it. I should mention that any one of these thing
