I had been referred to a collection company for medical bills. I knew the name of the collection agency so I looked up their web site to get their contact number and make a payment ( or so I thought) When I mistakenly contacted (what I thought) was the collection agency, they prompted me to give my name with spelling, DOB, SSN, and email address. Because I had contacted THEM and thought they were a company called A-1 collections, I complied with these requests. They charged me a dollar to look up my collection account. They told me I had nothing showing on collections and the call ended. After the call, I called my credit card company and they showed a $1 charge from a company who listed the charge category as a subscription to a marriage/ family counseling membership, not a collection agency. Financially at this point, I am only out $1, however, I am concerned about the fact that they now have a recording of my voice answering a series of questions, answering "yes" and "no" questions and spelling my nameout; They have my phone number, social security number, email, and credit card number ( which I cancelled) and mailing address. I received notice that I had an account turned over to collections after a credit report was ran from an an apartment application. I googled diversified collections agency, and dialed the number that came up 844-675-2715. I spoke to an agent by the name of Heather, who requested a one dollar charge to run credit I was and told that I would have to pay $499 to dispute accounts turned over to collections. I did not have the funds to do so at the time and requested to call back on another day. When I called back then, the number had an automated message stating that it was a scam.
