Airbnb Scam 1. From a third-party website I was contacted on Gmail and directed to this "Airbnb" site. http://airbnb.sg.tn/Somme-Road-District-8-207877-Singapore/booking.html 2. The picture and name of the Gmail address (am I allowed to post his/her fake name and email?) and on the website did not match. Did a reverse image search and found the picture here - http://www.tc.columbia.edu/spa/students.asp?listID=24&facID=1001 3. The domain of the fake Airbnb website is .tn (Tunisian). Ran a IP search of the website and got 185.27.134.100 in the UK. http://www.iplocation.net/ put it in Lincolnshire. Not sure if it is a VPN. 4. By continuing in the "Airbnb"site it instructed me to use Western Union to transfer cash to an "Airbnb Company Agent", then email a @accountant.com email. http://airbnb.sg.tn/9-Pasir-Ris-Link-District-18-518183-Singapore/payment.pdf This is not the same property, but is exactly the name aside from the Airbnb Company Agent details. I found that there were 3 different houses that this user was selling, at the same price, using the same Western Union instructions, etc etc 5. Airbnb said that this site is fake etc etc 6. When I confronted the person over Gmail this is how the conversation went word for word: ME: Hi Leslie, I am not sure of the email address airbnb_rental@accountant.com. @accoutant.com is often used by scammers, and is not an @airbnb.com address Regards, 09103094 LESLIE: Excuse me?
