Phone Scam From Skype User Area Code 616. Phone rang this morning. Grandmother answered on speaker phone so I heard the following. Person claiming to be my younger brother said he was in jail in Mexico City and needed to post a $2,200 bond or sit in jail until his court case came 6 weeks later. Grandmother said how do I get you the money? Person said "Let me let you talk to the officer." I take the phone at this point. Officer asks for my first and last name, which I decline. I ask "Who is needing to be bailed out of jail?" Officer replies let put him on the phone. Person says Hey this is Thomas and I need to be bailed out of here. To which I reply "This is your older brother. If you are Thomas what is my first and middle name?" Person panics a bit and then hangs up. Caller ID on phone says: Skype User 661-748-0240. After digging around on the web I discovered this number has been used hundreds of times on all sorts of scams. And to sum it up, in order to report this to Skype I have to sign up and become a member. WTF?? Reddit....beware!
