Just got a snail-mail letter. Sounds fishy. I just got a legit-looking letter from Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company saying that their network has been hacked, and that some of my personal information has been stolen. I have never done business with Nationwide. They want me to go to www.myservices.equifax.com/tri and give them all of my personal info including SSN and sign up for free credit report monitoring and identity theft protection. They gave me a promotional code that is supposed to make this service free for one year. The site that they send my to looks like it is really Equifax. What do you think, scammit?
