In the state of Missouri, can a debt collector show up at your house? Hi [/r/legaladvice](/r/legaladvice), I hope this is the right subreddit. I received a voice mail message from what I'm assuming was a debt collector, they didn't identify the company they were with or anything. They mentioned me by name, and said they would be coming by my residence, and my parent's residence tomorrow, in order for me to sign some paperwork for a matter "that I need to take care of". They also mentioned, that they would be calling my wife, and a former neighbor of mine about this matter. They left a number, which was out of my area, I called, and it went right to voice mail. There was still no indication of what company I was calling. I do have some outstanding debt, that I am slowly but surely trying to take care of, so this may be legit. My question is, can a debt collector show up at your house and ask you to sign paperwork, and if so what are my rights? Can I refuse to sign, and ask for an acceptable amount of time to review the paperwork, in order to verify this is a valid debt? In case it matters, I live in Jefferson County, in the state of Missouri. Sorry if I rambled, thank you in advance for any advice you could offer. Update: They just called again, and said they would be at my home or place of employment in 3 or 4 hours. I googled the number they left, and it looks like they are debt collectors, and this is one of their strong arm tactics, http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-855-272-1417 I have a feeling no one is going to show, but I guess I'll have to wait and see.
