We had a flight on united airlines for an international trip. We called an 800-540-2458 number found online to make a change to the flight and were told that we had to cancel the original flight and reissue the ticket. They reissued the tickets on 3 different airlines and charged over $12,000 to our credit card. THe flights themselves are $500 each yet the charges made to our credit card are over 12,000. We have cancelled the credit card and have disputed the charges. This is an absolute nightmare. [BBB Scam Type: Travel/Vacation/Timeshare] [Business: Earn Flight] [Location: NC, USA - 28904]

I was trying to cancel a reservation on United Airlines. I googled United and got this 800-540-2458 number with a person who pretended to be a reservation customer service employee. He (supposedly named Aiden though he had a thick Indian accent) told me that I needed to upgrade my flight in order to cancel it. He wanted to charge me $4,900 for two tickets and claimed I'd get it refunded and then he'd reticket at the lower cost, or some shenanigan like that. I almost believed him until he asked for my credit card number. I asked why he couldn't use the number on file and he said it's because he needed to reticket me. I knew it didn't make sense so I made an excuse to hang up and he continued to find reasons to keep me on the line, like he said "oh wait, the second leg of your flight was never ticketed" which of course I knew wasn't correct. So I hung up. He then called me back! But this time the number that came across my phone was (301) 859-4137. I immediately googled the United phone number again, this time it came up with a different number (the actual, correct number) and so I asked them what this scammer could do with my info since he has my confirmation number, name and cell phone number. United said that he could conceivably cancel my flight since he as that info, but I'd at least get an email notification if that happens. I'm just glad I didn't give my credit card number, but I'm still worried he'll mess with my flight. I'm reporting it here in case anyone googles either of those numbers and hopefully they'll wisen up before getting scammed. I contacted United Airlines 800 540-2458 to make changes on my group # for a flight from Newark to Chicago. The changes were made & I received a confirmation email while on the phone from [email protected] . The same email address that was used for my original itinerary. I was informed that it would cost $4296 which would be fully refundable by 2/20/26 being that it was one day prior to my trip. It is mind boggling to know that someone was able to access the data on United Airlines & generate the changes. I immediately downloaded my boarding pass & my flight was as scheduled with the group change. I reported to bank no resolution, I reported to United Airlines no resolution & I also reported to FTC [BBB Scam Type: Online Purchase] [Business: United Airlines Spoof] [Location: NJ, USA- 07077]
