So, I almost got scammed. Hi everyone. Just informing everyone of a scam I almost suffered today and trying to warn some other people in the UK to help avoid it. So, I put up a wanted ad on Gumtree asking for a older model windows or htc phone. Literally straight away, I got a text with someone offering me a Nokia 1020 for £60. My partner instantly said 'this is too good to be true and can't be real'. Plus the person was begging me to do direct bank transfer as they lived a while away and said they'd post it to me. I said that I'd only do paypal (obviously), they said they didn't have a paypal, in to which I replied, no way. They suddenly had a paypal account, sent me the related email, and asked me for a instant payment (again, no). I asked them to email me some pictures to image search to make sure they weren't already up online. Link: http://i.imgur.com/G38XE47.jpg I then got them to confirm that they were in fact selling me the phone in the pictures via email and that I was sending they payment to them. Payment cleared (obviously clicked payment for goods and added delivery address), but they then told me their paypal wasn't working and that they had to refund me the money so I could send half directly to their bank account, and half to their paypal (you know, with their paypal not working) so the alarm bells sounded. I said yes, just to get my money back, and then declined the phone. So my guess is, paypal held the funds, and would continue to hold them until I said I had received the item, so they panicked. Later I found the ebay listing in the US with the pictures I had been sent. So, the lesson of the story is, don't believe in anything
